Rehousing the Historic Photo Collection and the Adirondack Museum Archives
Recipient: Alessi, Doreen (Blue Mountain Lake, NY 12812 USA) in affiliation with Adirondack Museum
Goal: The purchase of storage furniture and preservation supplies to rehouse the museum's photograph collection, which consists of 70,000 images dating from 1845 to the present, and documents the history and culture of eastern upstate New York.
Description: The primary purpose of the proposed project is to expand archive storage and rehouse significant portions of two important collections: the Adirondack Museum's historic photo collection and internal institutional documents. The historic photo collection is the largest and most important collection of Adirondack-related photographs. The museum's internal archives represent more than 55 years of operational records and correspondence, maps and surveys of the museum's land holdings, architectural drawings, guest/visitor registries, and documentary photographs. These two important collections are stored in areas currently overcrowded and not easily accessible. By reconfiguring current storage spaces, adding a new storage area, and purchasing new cabinets, both collections will be more accessible and better protected from destructive elements.
